Ngày 30 tháng 8 năm 2020, Ajax đạt được thỏa thuận với Manchester United về việc chuyển nhượng Van de Beek.[2] Thương vụ được hoàn thành 3 ngày sau đó, Van de Beek ký hợp đồng 5 năm với "Quỷ đỏ thành Man" mức phí khoảng 35 triệu bảng Anh kèm theo 5 triệu phụ phí.[3][4] Van de Beek đã chọn khoác áo số 34 để tưởng nhớ người đồng đội cũ ở Ajax, Abdelhak Nouri, người bị đột quỵ trong một trận giao hữu năm 2017.[5] Van de Beek ra mắt trong trận giao hữu với Aston Villa vào ngày 12 tháng 9 trước khi có trận đấu đầu tiên tại Ngoại hạng Anh vào ngày 19 tháng 9. Anh ghi bàn thắng duy nhất của United trong thất bại 3-1 ngay trên sân nhà.[6]
